Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter How Long to Beat and Chapter Count
Ten segments from prologue to Finale, a ten-hour demo that only covers two of them, and rough length estimates for three play styles.
Ten segments: the prologue, Chapters 1 through 8, and the Finale.
That is the original SC structure, and the remake follows it.
The one length figure the publisher has given is the demo: about ten hours, ending at Chapter 1.
So the first two segments eat ten hours on their own. This is plainly a long game.
The publisher has not published a full completion time.
Chapter count
Prologue plus Chapters 1 through 8 plus the Finale, ten segments in total.
The prologue and Chapter 1 are open in the demo, and the official page names those two segments.
Length estimates for three play styles
No official completion figure exists, so the ranges below are reasoned estimates with their basis stated, not publisher numbers.
| Play style | Estimate | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Main story only, skipping most side quests | Clearly longer than 1st Chapter’s main line | The structure grows from FC’s roughly six segments to SC’s ten |
| Normal run, main story plus most Bracer jobs | Same tier as 1st Chapter or longer | 1st Chapter’s official figure is about 80 hours; RPGFan calls this one hefty and IGN calls it massive |
| Completionist, side quests plus fishing, cooking, Viewer Mode | Considerably longer | IGN says players who clear every side quest face a lot of backtracking |
Why “dozens of hours” is not useful enough
Because play time is distributed unevenly.
RPGFan says: “you frequently backtrack for main plot progression and your standard Bracer Guild side quests.”
A large share of the run goes into backtracking and side content. Skipping changes the number a lot.
If you only want the story, the total drops sharply. If you always clear the quest board, budget generously.
Using the demo as your anchor
The publisher’s ten hours covers the prologue and Chapter 1.
That is the only official number, and it is the best reference you have: however long the demo took you, that is how long the first two segments take.
Against a ten-segment structure, you can extrapolate the rest yourself.
Does the remake speed things up or slow them down
Both.
Faster: the remake added fast travel. Noisy Pixel says it removes the exhausting backtracking of the original. Quick Battle also speeds up trash fights.
Slower: IGN points out the mandatory backtrack before the Finale, where fast travel points reset and must be reactivated. That stretch is the low point.
So moment-to-moment movement is faster, but the structural problem before the Finale remains.
Can you finish it inside the launch window
| Hours per week | Read on it |
|---|---|
| 10 or more | A normal run takes one to two weeks |
| 5 to 10 | About a month. Consider skipping some side quests |
| Under 5 | Even a main-story run takes months. Try the free demo before committing |
What is skippable and what is not
Skippable: fishing, poker, cooking, Viewer Mode. These are side content.
Affects rewards: Bracer jobs. Completion drives Bracer Points and rank, and rank pays out.
The publisher has not said whether skipping side content affects the ending. This site does not claim the main story is unaffected.
About that 80-hour figure for 1st Chapter
The “about 80 hours” figure for 1st Chapter comes from a public remark by Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo, reported by game media.
It is not a store page label, and it is not a figure for this game. It appears here as a series comparison only.
What has not been published
A full completion time for this game. The three tiers above are reasoned estimates with their basis stated.
Player-reported figures on sites like HowLongToBeat vary widely within the same game, so this site does not cite them as conclusions.
